Homiya organizes over 200 volunteers in 16 psychiatric hospitals and 4 general-hospital mental health wards across the country.
The project was established to provide support for families, patients, and hospitals in dealing with the short- and long-term hospitalization of family members. Visiting the hospitals brings joy and hope to the patients, helping them feel seen and proving to them that they are not alone.
Homiya organizes Shabbat Kiddush, musical Kabbalat Shabbat, and other activities centered on holidays throughout the year: lighting Hanukkah candles, reading Megillah on Purim, blowing Shofar on Rosh Hashana, dancing with the Torah on Simchat Torah, High Holiday prayers and more. This forges lasting relationships between patients and volunteers. We also bring toiletries, pajamas and clothes for patients who cannot afford their own.
Homiya organizes Shabbat accommodations so that religious family members can visit their relatives without traveling on Shabbat, allowing religious patients to receive visits and support, whether their hospitalization lasts for weeks or even months.
